Today a young girl asked me what was the most important thing to me while I choose my major in the university. I said to her,” you must choose a major which is you are really want to study and most like. The girl only is sixteen years old who is a form six student in a famous middle school named ST Rose. She is confused by choosing her major. She told me certainly, the liberal arts are “rubbish”. Then I told you , I choose a “rubbish” major. Why did she think like this? She replied that Macau is a commercial society so that has to choose the relevant major. I asked her which major she want to study, the answer is account , because it can earn a lot of money.
The girl’s thought is very typical. Why do I say that? Since Macau opened the market of Casino, many hotels and casino have established in Macau. Many teenager stopped study and became casino-worker. Some of them are studding in school, they have to face the truth how to choose their future?
When I finished middle school, I didn’t have this problem. I knew what I want to do and what I can handle. My English teacher in the free talk class, she asked me the Chinese Communication whether can let me easy to find a job. I think to find a job is no problem but to find a good job is difficulty to some student if they don’t have very good professional skills.
I never regretting what I had chosen , but one thing I really feel regret, that is I didn’t study English very well in university. I missed the chance to improve English.
