About reading

Today, I had a short talk with an English teacher who teaches creative writing in university . Recently, he and his students published twelve story books in
English. He gave me two books. One of them is a series story about Macao.

In the past, I spent a lot time to read Chinese novel and essay instead of English.
Since I study English from the Beginning of 2006 , I began to read a lot of English articles except novel.

During my studying time, I only read a novel written by a South America author. In the book, the novelist used simple English to express the most complicate thinking.

How to definite a book which is good or bad? I think You can use the expression of word. Even though some authors can write in abstruse wordings, but their contents are still powerless and colourless.

Reading English to me is difficult but I believe it can improve my English just as I studied Chinese in childhood. Reading day and night , then, you would find you could write without barrier suddenly.

Die-hard fan

Chinese parents are known for their willingness to do whatever for the happiness of their children, and for Yang Qinji, a 68-year-old father, the case is even more so.
On March 27, 2007, Yang ended his life (by jumping into the Salisbury sea in Hong Kong)-modify verb ,( one day after he managed to help his 29-year-old daughter meet her icon)-adverb course , Hong Kong pop star Andy Lau, leaving a posthumous letter pleading Lau to meet his daughter for another time, reported sina.com, a leading Chinese web portal.
A 12-year craze for pop singer
Yang Lijuan, the daughter, fell strongly for Lau after having a dream about him - a picture in her room bearing the words "You walk close to me, and we fell in love with each other." She quitted school since then, and turned into a full-time die-hard fan of Andy Lau.
Over the past 12 years, she has, through various means, expressed her admiration for Lau, and attended his concerts or fan meetings whenever possible, paying two trips to Hong Kong and six to Beijing.
Unwilling to see their daughter's heart broken, Yang's parents, especially the father, a retired middle school teacher, have stood by her all these years, trying to meet her demands. In October 2004, the father even accompanied his daughter to attend a Lau's concert at the Workers' Stadium in Beijing.
However, the daughter's craze for Lau also caused huge economic burden to the not-so-rich family.
In 2004, in order to raise money for her daughter's second trip to Hong Kong, the father sold their house, and the family has since lived in a rented house. In 2006, he even considered selling his kidney to pay his daughter's third Hong Kong trip, causing a media outcry.

Remarked by Ella : Luckly, I have no icon , no god , even no perosn. Why do I need to believe someone's value, belief, philosophy ,etc. Believing a false appearances is so fool.

To this girl-- her live value is Lau.

What women want: Self-fulfillmentBy

Wang Zhuoqiong (China Daily)Updated: 2007-03-27 06:53

What makes a woman happy? Power, money, love, sex?
In fact, self-fulfillment ranks the highest, for more than 60 percent of the respondents in a recent survey.
The survey was conducted by the Yueji.Self, a Chinese-language magazine jointly launched this month by the Chinese-language Women of China magazine and the New York-based magazine publisher Conde Nast Publications.
"The high marks for self -fulfillment are inspiring and encouraging," Li Yinhe, a noted sexologist and professor at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said.
"It shows big progress. More and more women want to achieve their life value, which eclipses the importance of the private life for women.
"When women start to value self fulfillment, they become more equal to men."
In China, the traditional mindset is that men live for their careers and women live for love.
Although only about 22.5 percent surveyed prioritized love as the big happiness maker, it doesn't mean that Chinese women no longer believe in love, Li said.
However, it demonstrated that love was no longer the most important factor for a woman to be happy in China. This is perhaps reflected in the growing trend that many Chinese women are opting to remain single.
While the dependence on love for happiness has dampened, according to the survey, so has sex.
Only about 2.2 percent of Chinese women consider sex the most valuable factor to a happy woman. ( Ella says: Among our society , not many women to talk about sex in public even at home as most of them think it is dirty and uneasy to say. )
The reason, Li said, was that the word was stereotyped with negative meanings.
"A good woman should not like sex," she said.
"Love is a beautiful word. But power, money and sex all represent the negative things."
So it is understandable when only 0.6 percent of women chose power, the lowest among all options, the survey showed.
"The awareness and recognition of women's empowerment are relatively low in China," Li said. "The country has long been a patriarchial society and still is, offering less opportunities and encouragement to women to compete with men."
"Despite the progress made in gender equality and women empowerment in recent years, only 20 percent of the National People's Congress (NPC) members are females," Li said.
The survey is also the first of its kind to be carried out in 15 cities on the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan province.
It surveyed 24,107 women aged from 25 to 35 from December 2006 and March 2007.
Women from Taiwan Province have more expectation in money, due to province's stagnant economy and marriage culture.
As a result, a large number of women feel insecure and uncertain about their future and marriage, Lan Huaien, a Taiwan gender culture researcher and a writer, said.
The survey showed that women in Hong Kong were more romantic, with 34.3 percent of women believing that love mattered the most.
"Hong Kong women are in the drought of love," Su Hei, a Hong Kong psychological consultant, said. ( It is very true that most of HK and Macao women have a thirst for love , we still believe true love but less men believe love as women . "They have raised higher standards in choosing their matches."
Perhaps this higher standard would account for the 30-40 percent of Hong Kong men who prefer to marry women from the Chinese mainland.
On the other hand, perhaps women in Hong Kong, where material goals are easier to obtain, require more substance in the soul.

My friend, Chinese Dr.Yeung visited us yesterday. When him came into the door, he said:Oh so cold here. It was not good for Mr.Chang’s health.
I think he was right. We need more and more sunshine.

Too many book, not enough time.

These day I ate a lot, talked a lot, read a lot but wrote a little.
Busy, busy, busy, it is a good way to forgive myself.
I don’t know why, sometime, I just want to focus on one point.
Recently, I like reading book and watching movie.
Perhaps, someday, I will turn to write script or article day and night.
This week, I am reading a book named: Mao, Unknown Story.
Wo…I knew a lot about Mao and Communist Party. A lot of people died for their power of desire.
The other book “伶人往事” also is a great book. I was deeply touched by the real stories.
No doubt, I love Zhang yihe’s style of writing as well as her speculate criticism on Communist Party.
Tonight, I bought tow books 令大學頭痛的中文和殺悶思維.
Too many book, not enough time.

BIG LIBERATION

Just finish my Annual Report and sent to my boss RIGHT NOW. Big LIBERATION!
I haven’t written English essay for this blog for long long time. I have no excuse to forgive me indeed.

Let me report what happened tome these days:

Ike have came back to USA last week. I invited him to dinner in the Macau tour. I ordered all dished that were his favorite food, but he ate not much. I thought that was his style – ate a little bit but fat. I always talked with him about my opinions about that, thus , I was very surprised while I said the same common to Island about him even using Cantonese, he would understood me actually. I believe his Cantonese was not so bad.

Last Friday, I missed our tea gathering as I had to struggle for my annual report at office. President Tea, I am so sorry to you. I promise, I will come this Friday early.
I went to see an old, small house with a balance(天台) today. We are considering whether buy it or not. Mr Chang liked the balance, however, I didn’t like the aisle because it was very dark. Besides, I also didn’t like those people placing a lot of stuff on the aisle and hung on many clothes in front of the balance. It was intolerable!

I am not sure if I should buy it as the price is not in a legal price even the owner is my friend. But then I like the location. If I buy it, I could go to middle area by walking quickly , and no need to drive my motorcycle to class or shopping in the weekend or holiday. That would be great!

On the other hand, we really want to have a balance as our back garder(後花園).
Let me think a moment calmly. Tell you next time what’s our result.
